From Grace Hopper to Katherine Johnson, groundbreaking innovations by women have changed the entire landscape of our existence in the best ways. In celebration of Women’s History Month, let’s also introduce a few of the Women of Replicated who are making history themselves.
“You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.” - David Allen
Role at Replicated: Lauren partners with engineering leadership to advance our product and engineering initiatives. She works with our development teams to improve their tooling, testing, deployment, and reliability. She also hires and coaches the engineers on our Site Reliability Engineering and Platform teams.
Proudest accomplishment: Maximizing the benefit we get from our engineering team spend on cloud services, without impacting our engineering efforts.
“I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.” - Pablo Picasso
Role at Replicated: Amber leads the Product group at Replicated, which consists of Product Management, Product Documentation, and Product Design. One of the most important aspects of her role is to help ensure that the folks in her org have what they need to reach their full potential and deliver awesome things for our customers.
How to improve gender equity: “A passion point for me is bringing attention to the Double-Bind Phenomena because I’ve seen its impact throughout my career, especially for women looking to move into leadership roles. I would strongly encourage both men and women to read more about it, and leverage the recommended strategies to help mitigate its impact.”
“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” - Seneca
Role at Replicated: Star’s day to day typically consists of reviewing pull requests, squashing bugs, making new features come to life, collaborating with back end, product, and docs to write features, and providing support for customers that use the Vendor Portal product.
Proudest accomplishment: “Getting promoted to senior engineer within 7 months of starting at Replicated. It felt really good that my hard work and efforts were noticed by my manager and rewarded accordingly. I absolutely love what I do and I’m happy to have found a place that rewards passion!”
“How we spend our days is of course how we spend our lives.” - Annie Dillard
Role at Replicated: Kaylee ensures all the amazing things happening at Replicated are communicated out to our industry and the world. She manages strategic planning for the marketing team, website development, campaigns, budgets, events, and much, much more.
How to improve gender equity: “So often it can feel like women are the only ones pushing towards a more equitable world, and that we’re the only ones pushing forward the conversation. We need allies to speak loudly, too, and advocate just as strongly. Those with more power, paired with those fighting for it, are going to be able to make the largest impact.”
“Strong women don't have 'attitudes', we have standards.” ― Marilyn Monroe
Role at Replicated: Cristina partners with our People Ops and Talent Team by coordinating interviews between candidates, hiring managers, peers, and executives. Once we’ve extended an offer and a candidate accepts, she assists new hires with onboarding. She also develops and tracks metrics around recruiting, onboarding, and training to help the team continually improve.
Person most inspired by: “Mary Barra (CEO at General Motors), as she is a CEO of one of the big 3 automotive companies which historically speaking is a male dominated field (similar to tech) and to see a company that large have a female CEO is so inspiring for me and what’s to come for women in the future.”
"If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else." - Booker T. Washington
Proudest accomplishment: “The personal and professional growth I’ve made over the past year at Replicated. I started green as grass and have moved up to Team Lead in under a year with plans in the works to become the Sales Development Manager. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work alongside some of the most intelligent, compassionate, and supportive individuals that I’ve ever come across.”
Person most inspired by: “I have to put two people that inspire me: Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. They both played pivotal roles in the Stonewall Uprising that helped start the LGBTQ+ movement that we know today. I’m amazed by their courage and tenacity as activists. They fought for the rights of the most marginalized members of our society at a time when few others would, and I can only hope to have a fraction of that kind of impact.”
